Warm-ups
Will will start each day, preparing participants for an entire day of singing and conducting; and providing a repertoire of ideas to take away.
Repertoire
Five sessions will offer music for children’s, youth and adult community or church choirs. Additionally, full time participants in categories 1 and 2 receive repertoire in their Summer School package. Participants in category 3 may opt to purchase a package.
Master classes
Given by Fred Sjöberg these will be observed by the whole school, giving all participants opportunity to learn from the development of conductors in their midst.
Retail music display
There is opportunity to browse through an excellent variety of music and to make contact with retailers to purchase and order for the year's music making.
The venue
The Eldon Hogan Performing Arts Centre at Xavier College, opened in 2008, is a state of the art facility for the Summer School major sessions, with some groups in the Chapel and Great Hall.
The school can be entered from Barkers Rd or Charles St, and there is ample car parking in the grounds. (Melway 45 C-D 7-8). One or two blocks walk from trams 109, 24, 48, 16. (Tram 16 connects with Glenferrie railway station.)

To assist you in nominating your current skill, consider the following:
Emphasis on conducting
Development of your conducting skill is the central goal of the ACCET Summer School. This will occur through group tuition, demonstration and master classes. In 5 in-depth conducting group workshops you will improve your skill and confidence in conducting.To assist you in nominating your current skill, consider the following:
Beginner
- has limited experience rehearsing and conducting a choir
- needs basic conducting patterns
- needs confidence in score preparation
- needs confidence in cueing entries and executing cut-offs
- wants beginning information on running rehearsals
Intermediate
- has had substantial experience rehearsing and conducting a choir
- has had previous conducting tuition
- wants to increase technical skill with entries and cut-offs, phrasing, legato, staccato, accent, pauses, dynamics and time changes
- wants to advance knowledge of musical interpretation
Advanced
- has much experience rehearsing and conducting skilled choirs
- is willing to audition on the first day to gain a place in the advanced group
- has had considerable conducting tuition
- is willing to tackle advanced music
