A Company of CarolsMargaret SutherlandMaie Casey / Joan Lindsay / Rosemary Dobson / Marnie BassettUnison / SATBPianoAustralian Music Centrehttp://www.australianmusiccentre.com.au/AnySecondary / CommunityEasy - Moderate - ChallengingChristmasA cycle of five carols on Australian texts, including the irreverent "Boy, We Follow A Star". Four of the movements are unison (or solo), and are approachable by most community or good school choirs (though probably not for a beginning primary choir) - "Babes and Angels" and "Asleep He Lies" are lyrical; while "Through The Dark Night" and "Boy We Follow A Star" are more spiky and chromatic. The SATB movement "The Oceans Clapped Their Hands" is a much more challenging piece suitable for a highly skilled chamber choir. Any of the movements can be performed as stand-alone selections, or a partial bracket (so a choir not ready for "The Oceans" could still tackle the remaining four movements).

The peice can be performed with SAT or SATB (the bass part primarily follows the melody line) and is suited to groups with fewer men or sounds great with mixed vocie choirs. MCCCHOIR has had a lot of fun learning and recording this piece as it has a lot of energy and is complimented by a rich and engaging arrangement. The piece comes alive with a horn and rhythm section but sounds equally good with piano accompaniment. The piece can make use of a small ensemble group to sing backing vocal parts and has several passages which would suit a male and female soloist or feauting the mean in verse 1 and alto section and sopran section in the bridge"
